The Pilot Union of the national carrier of Zimbabwe, Air Zimbabwe continues its strike demanding full payment of arrears and salaries pending from last year. The carrier going through a hard time, had recently increased its facilities for passengers that includes baggage allowance, ore flights and better air craft’s however the ongoing cancellations of flights due to Pilot strike can cost incalculable damage to carrier in terms of both its finance and reputation.
The strike that started on March 22, 2011 has reached a deadlock as Pilots are taking strong stand on not resuming duties until unless full payments are made. In last year September as well, Air Zimbabwe Pilots Union went on Strike against the airline for the same issue. However the strike came to an end with a possible payment of arrears agreed between the airline and its pilots. However, as of now, the Pilots have claimed that only partial payment was made to them and are fighting through strike to get their full money paid.
Air Zimbabwe offers flights to Harare from London Gatwick International airport and also offers flights to other important African destinations including Victoria Falls, Johannesburg and Bulawayo flights. There are chances that the airline will partly operate on some routes and therefore it is recommended to contact Air Zimbabwe direcly for most accurate and up to date information on flight status, cancellations, rebooking, refunds etc.
