The Ethiopian Airline (ET) based in Addis Ababa Ethiopia and German Airline Lufthansa operate code share flights between Frankfurt airport Germany and Addis Ababa, about ten times a week. This agreement gives Lufthansa the access to African market and its various regional routes and vice versa, Ethiopian airline gets closer to the European networks and extensive routes offered by the German carrier, Lufthansa.
According to recent updates, it is indicated that Ethiopian Airline (ET) and Lufthansa (LH) may have signed an initial agreement last week, that will enable Ethiopian Airline to use Lufthansa’s Lido / Take off Performance Solution into its operations. This agreement is possibly in addition to the code share flights operated by the two carriers and is expected to increase substantial savings for the two airlines.
The existing code share between Lufthansa Airline and African carrier, Ethiopian airline is showing signs of success for both the carriers in areas of cargo as well as passenger numbers.
Further to that, new doors will be opening up for Ethiopian Airline (ET) as the carrier will step into the prestigious Star Alliance in the year 2011 and become full member of the group. At present, Ethiopian Airline offers flights to Central, Eastern as well as Southern Africa including flights to Harare, Nairobi, Lusaka, Johannesburg, Dar es Salam and many more important African destinations.
